Incident report

At about 11 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15, four cavers entered an abandoned mine above the town of Argenta, near Dillon, Montana. From the mine they entered a cave and began exploring. At about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Frank Kujawa (22) slipped and fell ten feet into a hole suffering a compound leg fracture. Rescuers reached the mine at about 6:30 a.m. The evacuation involved raising the victim, on a stretcher, up vertical drops and partly removing him from the stretcher to get around tight corners. The evacuation of the victim was a thirteen hour effort.
